The event itself takes its name from one of Retfords more famous landmarks- The Savastopol Cannon. Captured from the Russians during the Siege of Sevastopol it was hauled back to Retford and with much pomp and ceremony displayed in its current position, Cannon square sometime after 1856.

Council owned car parks on CHAPLEGATE,CHURCHGATE and CHANCERY LANE, as well as the un-surfaced area owned by Asda off WEST STREET are all FREE on SUNDAYS. If you plan to stay over night, there are many B&B’s in the Town and an evening at the RUM RUNNER with its guest ales and great atmosphere would be a good place to start!
